A few weeks ago, I listened to an Instagram story of one of my favorites, @melaniethemedium. She spoke about moving forward in your life by making bold decisions. It resonated with me and I've been sitting with the thought ever since. Then, yesterday, I read a blog post by another one of my online favorites @kellyraeroberts. In her post she explained how her life had changed since "breaking up" with Facebook and Instagram. She said it was just "different" at first. Then it was a little harder as feelings of loneliness and boredom set in. Then, instead of thinking about the loneliness and boredom as being a negative, she just considered it an adjustment period until, finally, the feelings of loneliness and boredom were replaced with feelings of clarity and FREE TIME to explore new ways of expressing herself through her paintings, to read books, to spend time with her family and to really focus on her new business.
After reading that, I just new what to do. There was no questioning it. I just knew. And just after I posted about logging off of those platforms (and I have to admit that pushing the "share" and "post" button was hard!) I received a notification that my allotted time on Instagram had expired for the day. A sure sign from the universe that I had made the right decision.
Now, I will be focused on blog content, on keeping my Etsy shop updated, and on slowly growing my yoga and art business so it's waiting and ready for me when I retire. I'm even entertaining the idea of an old-school e-mail newsletter! I've toyed around with the idea of taking early retirement, but decided to hold off so my last year is a positive one and not shrouded in Covid. So, I'll also be taking you along for my last hurrah as a public school art teacher!
I'm really looking forward to finally focusing on this space and using it to share my story as an art teacher, yoga instructor, artist, mom, Bibi and wife. Please, please, please... if you have a website, newsletter, Etsy shop or just want to share your e-mail address with me, leave the info here in the comments so I can keep up with you! Comments are moderated, so it won’t be visible to others unless you want it to be.
Here's to less noise and more clarity in the future!
Be Still. Be Strong. Be Happy.
~ Juli
